The strategy combines different asset classes that are traditionally negatively correlated: primarily equities, bonds and money market instruments, precious metals and cash. Investing in the Sustainability Transition: the cases for Climate Transition and Natural Capital

At Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) we manage approximately EUR 15 billion across our Global Equities franchise. Our core conviction is that our global economic model is unsustainable given its social and environmental footprint. The future needs to be deeply different than the past. We need to generate economic growth, which is deeply needed, but it has to be decoupled from its footprint. The recipe for this decoupling is the transition from a WILD (Wasteful, Iddle, Lopsided and Dirty) economic model to a CLICTM economic model (Circular, Lean, Inclusive and Clean). This transition requires to solve many Sustainability challenges (eg Zero Waste, Zero emissions, living within nature’s boundaries, achieving more with less, adapting to environmental change). Solving for these sustainability challenges is in fact a source of fantastic growth of opportunities for companies that can provide the right products and services. Therefore, our value proposition for investors is putting Sustainability at the forefront of the selection process because Sustainability is a growth opportunity in itself. Our value proposition should not be confused with ethical consideration, ESG or Impact Investing. We do integrate ESG considerations as part of our investment process but they are not defining the opportunity set. Impact is not the driver for selection but because we invest into companies that benefit from bringing solutions, we can report on their positive contribution to society. Our approach is therefore deeply different from ESG-driven or carbon footprint focused strategy that usually miss on the ability to identify opportunities brought by the Sustainability revolution (or the transition from a WILD to a CLICTM economic model).
At Lombard Odier Investment Managers, we are rethinkers with one goal in mind. To provide our clients with outstanding investment solutions that meet their needs for the long term and evolve to thrive in the challenging world in which we all live. We constantly rethink what we know and do, innovating to create new strategies and develop new ways of investing. We believe that the next economic revolution has already begun and that sustainability will be a major driver of returns. Our team of sustainability experts combine sophisticated data sources, academic rigour and technical innovation to create leading-edge, science-based tools that provide unique insights. These unique insights are reflected directly in our growing range of dedicated sustainable investment strategies that are aligned to this core belief – That our economic model must move from being Wasteful, Idle, Lopsided and Dirty to become Circular, Lean, Inclusive and Clean. We call this The CLICTM Economy. With more than 182 investment professionals, we are a global business with a network of 13 offices across Europe, Asia and North America and have assets under management of 70.1 billion CHF (as at 31 December 2021).

Finding the Opportunities That Arise From the Transition to a More Sustainable Economy

Impax believes capital markets will be shaped profoundly by global sustainability challenges, and these trends will drive growth for well-positioned companies and create risks for those unable or unwilling to adapt. Impax will present its Global Opportunities Strategy, an all-cap, long-only equity offering that invests in companies possessing sustainable competitive advantages in order to achieve long-term capital growth. Idea generation is guided by our proprietary tool, the Impax Sustainability Lens, to identify the investment risks and opportunities, and therefore the winners and losers, arising from the transition to a more sustainable economy.

Founded in 1998 by Ian Simm, Impax Asset Management has pioneered investment in the transition to a more sustainable economy and today is one of the largest investment managers dedicated to this area. We believe capital markets will be shaped profoundly by global sustainability challenges, particularly climate change, environmental pollution, natural resource constraints, demographic and human capital issues such as diversity, inclusion and gender equity. These trends will drive growth for well-positioned companies and create risks for those unable or unwilling to adapt. Fundamental analysis which incorporates long-term risks, including environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, enhances investment decisions. We invest in companies and assets that are well positioned to benefit from the shift to a more sustainable economy. We seek higher quality companies, with strong business models and governance, that demonstrate sound management of risk whilst being able to adapt intelligently to changing conditions. Each of our strategies are underpinned by proven, proprietary investment tools that help us allocate clients’ capital towards areas of the market that are providing solutions to sustainability challenges. We offer a well-rounded suite of investment solutions spanning multiple asset classes, aiming to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns over the medium to long term. Impax invests in companies and assets that are well positioned to benefit from the shift to a more sustainable economy. Across investment portfolios, Impax seeks to invest in higher quality companies with strong business models that demonstrate sound management of risk. Impax offers a well-rounded suite of investment solutions to global investors, spanning multiple asset classes seeking superior risk-adjusted returns over the medium to long-term. Impax manages funds and accounts in four areas: actively managed long-only equity, fixed income, private markets, and systematic equities. www.impaxam.com

ANIMA STAR HIGH POTENTIAL EUROPE: A Macro / Thematic European Equity Long/Short Strategy

ANIMA HIGH POTENTIAL EUROPE is a discretionary, variable net Long/Short strategy, which invests in European equities (mainly large caps) with a fully discretionary, macro / thematic approach and strong focus on overall portfolio and single positions’ liquidity. The strategy’s objectives are capturing the market’s upside potential and protecting capital from large drawdown (annualized volatility target: below 6%). The strategy relies on 3 performance engines: 1) Core Book (where highest conviction ideas – both longs and shorts – are represented, selected following the macro / thematic approach); 2) Dynamic Hedging Book (the primary tool to adjust overall net equity exposure to the desired level, based on the market environment); 3) Pair Trades Book (market neutral sector L/S books with a basket approach). The strategy’s net exposure range is from -10% to +60%.

ANIMA is the largest independent asset management group in Italy, with total assets under management of ca. EUR 204 bn (as of December 2021) and more than one million customers. ANIMA results from a process of aggregation of several companies, with different and complementary specializations, and today can count on more than 300 professionals, in Italy and abroad. It creates and manages forward looking, flexible investment solutions built around the specific needs of clients, whether institutional investors (insurance and financial groups, pension funds), companies or individuals. ANIMA offers Italian mutual funds, open-ended umbrella funds domiciled in Ireland and in Luxembourg, and pension funds. The parent company ANIMA Holding is a public company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since 2014. ANIMA SGR SpA is the operating company controlled by Anima Holding, and it controls Anima Asset Management Ltd, an Irish based company founded in June 1999. In 2020 the group has enlarged through the creation of Anima Alternative Sgr a company focused on private market investment and controlled by Anima Holding.
